Yesterday: Preparing for Grimes Mill ABC Sale in 1999
Diane Dillon Hooper submitted this photograph from June 1, 1999, of Holtie Woodson, Kate Mills Snider, Barbara Lockert, Margaret Borland and Carolyn Hurley at that year’s ABC (attic, basement, closet) Sale at Grimes Mill. The women volunteers for Historic Salisbury Foundation were taking a break from getting things ready for the sale. The 1896 roller mill, which the foundation purchased in 1982, was destroyed in a Jan. 16 fire. Grimes Mill was home for various foundation fundraisers and tours over the past 30 years, and the latest group of volunteers had invested close to 2,000 hours in getting it ready for a new educational mission this spring.
