Carson’s girls rebounded from an opening loss to crush Hickory Ridge 74-31 on the road on Wednesday.

Kelly Dulkoski scored 29 points to lead the Cougars (1-1).


Allison Blackwell scored 17, Kate Cole had a career-high 12, and Katherine Barringer added eight points.

“It was a good thing that we got to get right back out there after a disappointing loss on Tuesday,” Carson coach Brooke Misenheimer said. “We had tremendous energy early and we rebounded a lot better. It was a total team win.”

Carson’s boys basketball team lost 73-67 at Hickory Ridge on Wednesday.

Carson (0-2) 42-29 at halftime and was down by as many as 20 points in the second half before rallying within five.

Colton Laws paced the Cougars with 17 points.

Nick Hough scored 17 for the Ragin’ Bulls.

Salisbury girls
Salisbury’s girls won 53-42 at 4A Lake Norman on Wednesday.

The Hornets took charge in the third quarter by outscoring the Wildcats 21-11.

Brielle Blaire scored 27 points for the Hornets. Vashti Usry had 15.

Argia Gibson scored 16 for Lake Norman.

Salisbury boys
Salisbury’s boys basketball team lost 77-43 at Lake Norman on Wednesday.

Tyler Petty led the Hornets, who trailed 36-23 at halftime, with 10 points.

Hunter Seacat, 6-foot-8, scored 15 points for the Wildcats.

“It was definitely a reality check for us after we played well on Tuesday,” Salisbury coach Jason Causby said. “We played well early, but this was baptism by fire against a 4A team with high expectations.”

Davie County’s boys smashed Lexington 87-70 to move to 3-0.

The War Eagles led by 28 before clearing the bench.

Taylor Hatfield led Davie with 21 points, and Austin Hatfield scored 18.

Cody Martin had 16, and Caleb Martin scored 13.

Kenyon Tatum had 10 points.
Nolan Benson led the Yellow Jackets (2-2) with 22 points. Keith Horton added 14.

• Elizabeth Webb scored 30 points for West Iredell in an 80-49 loss to Alexander Central in the Warriors’ opener.

• South Rowan’s girls lost to Robinson 67-34 on Tuesday.

Avery Locklear led the Raiders with 19 points. Lynsey Corriher scored six.

• The Sam Moir Christmas Classic will be held on Dec. 27-29 at Catawba.

The six Rowan schools and Davie will participate.

Seeds will be determined by pre-Christmas records. No. 1 seeds will have a bye on Thursday, Dec. 27.

Six games are scheduled each of the three days, with championship games set for 6 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) on Saturday, Dec. 29.

Admission is $7 per day for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12.

Only passes accepted are NCHSAA, Gold Card and NC Official.

Women’s basketball
Catawba’s women’s basketball team knocked off 22nd-ranked Wingate 68-60 on Wednesday at Goodman Gym.

Catawba (4-2, 1-0) won the SAC opener for both teams behind 21 points by Chloe Bully and 19 by Elizabeth Merritt.

Merritt as 10-for-10 on free throws. Bully was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers.

Antoinette McPhail had another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Taylor May (South Rowan) scored six points for the Indians.

Former Statesville star Janitsha Williams scored 18 for the Bulldogs (4-2, 0-1), and Sarah Wollett scored 17.

Catawba trailed by three at halftime and was down six early in the second half when Bully led a spurt that put the Indians ahead to stay.

East Rowan’s girls beat Salisbury 47-22.

Shenique Pharr had nine points for the Mustangs.

Melonye McCree had eight points and seven rebounds. Shelby Benge had five points and six rebounds. Kennedy Lambert added five points.

Katie Wolfe and Tameria Riche scored seven points each for the Hornets.

• East Rowan’s jayvee boys won 43-39 against Salisbury.

Logan Shuping scored 14 points for the Mustangs. Jack Weisensel had 11, and Austin Love scored nine.

Middle school hoops
Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls los to Concordia 31-20.

Mary Sobataka scored 15 points to lead the Dolphins. Lauren Denhart scored five.

• Sacred Heart’s varsity girls beat Concordia Lutheran 32-8.

Annie Habeeb and Payton Russell scored six points each for the Dolphins.

• Sacred Heart’s varsity boys rolled to a 69-19 win against Concordia.

Will Casmus and Justin Boyd led the Dolphins with 13 points each.

Will Taylor (12), Michael Childress (11) aand Joseph Harrison (10) also scored in double figures.

Sacred Heart is holding its annual holiday tournament this weekend. Joining Sacred Heart are North Hills, Forsyth Country Day, the Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions and Statesville Christian.

• Salisbury Academy’s girls won 35-18 against First Assembly.

Maria Capito led the Jaugars with 11 points. Jenny Kribbs scored 10, and Juliana Anderson had six.

Anderson and Samantha Pritchard led the rebounding. Ivy Overcas, Ruth Clement and Abby Lee sparked the defense.

• Southeast’s boys beat China Grove 45-34 in eighth-grade basketball.

Lawrence Robinson scored 12 points for the Patriots. Austin Love had 11, and Brenden Westbrook scored 10.

Hayden Wilson scored 12 for the Red Devils.

Pfeiffer basketball
Pfeiffer’s men fell to Limestone 89-65 on Tuesday.

Josh Humphrey scored 25 points for Pfeifer (1-5, 1-2 CC).

P.J. Foster scored 19 for the Saints.

• Limestone held Pfeiffer to 21 percent shooting and beat the Falcons 87-50 in Gaffney, S.C., on Tuesday. Jodie Lemons scored 13 points for Pfeiffer.
