The Center for Faith & the Arts will host two writing workshops for adults, presented by writer-in-residence Jenny Hubbard, author of the novel “Paper Covers Rock.”
“How to read a poem, how to write a poem” will be offered on Nov. 6 from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. In the first half of the session, participants will examine recently published poems and, using them as models, will then craft their own poems worthy of publication. The cost is $20, and participation will be limited to 15 people.
The second workshop, “Tips for Fiction Writers,” will be offered on Nov. 7 from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. This session is designed for those who have stories or novels already in progress. Hubbard will share what she has learned about making a good story better and will ask participants to apply these tips to their own writing. Participants are asked to bring a copy of a work-in-progress. The cost is $20, and participation will be limited to 15 people.
For reservations, contact Kris Watson at faithart@bellsouth.net or 704-647-0999. Advance payment is required (check or cash), and the workshops will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. You may drop by the center’s office in the basement of Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison St., weekdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. or send your check to: Center for Faith & the Arts, PO Box 4098, Salisbury, NC 28145.
