SALISBURY – Are you currently using a Kindle, Nook or other eReader? Do you regularly listen to audiobooks on an iPod, mp3 player or other portable device? Did you know Rowan Public Library users can check out and download ebooks (electronic books), audiobooks and more from the North Carolina Digital Library?
NC Digital Library is a group of libraries across North Carolina sharing a digital collection. To get started using NC Digital Library, you will need a computer, Internet connection, a Rowan Public Library card and a four-digit personal identification number.
To access NC Digital Library, visit www.rowanpubliclibrary.org. Look for a green box on the right side of the page, and then look for the link to “NC Digital Audio and eBooks.” Click this link to get to the NC Digital Library home page.
The NC Digital Library offers ebooks, audiobooks, digital music and even a few videos. You’ll find fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, and more. It’s easy to browse or search the collection, from romance and mystery to cookbooks and travel guides. Most items check out for either a seven- or 14-day lending period, and at the end of the lending period, your items will automatically expire, so there are no overdue fees or lost items.
Best of all, NC Digital is available 24 hours a day – it’s your library’s virtual branch.
To check out items, you’ll need to sign in to NC Digital Library. Look for ‘my account/sign in’ links on the left side of the NC Digital Library web site or on a tab along the top. Click on one of these “sign in” links, choose Rowan Public Library from the list of libraries, and then enter your card number and four-digit pin. Then you’re ready to browse the collection or use the search box in the top right corner to search for a favorite author or title.
NC Digital Library is compatible with many portable electronic devices. To find out if your eReader, mp3 player, smart phone, computer, tablet or other device will work with NC Digital Library, click on the “compatible devices” link. It’s located inside a “Getting Started” box you’ll find on the right side of the NC Digital Library web site. This will also guide you through the process of downloading any additional software, if necessary.

Book Bites Club (South only): Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins. Book discussion groups for both adults and children are being held at South Rowan Regional Library and will meet the last Tuesday of each month. The group is open to the public and anyone is free to join at any time. There is a discussion of the book, as well as light refreshments at each meeting.
