A section of N.C. 3 (Dale Earnhardt Boulevard) between Rogers Lake Road and Peach Street in Kannapolis remains closed due to a water main break that occurred July 11.
A contractor working in the area struck a water line, causing water to gather under the roadway and buckle the pavement. The city of Kannapolis has established a detour along Peach Street, Desota Avenue and Rogers Lake Road.
At this time, crews are working to replace damaged curb and gutter, and will put down 5 inches of asphalt on the road surface. Tomorrow, an additional 6 inches of asphalt will be applied. Depending on weather and progress on repairs, crews should reopen the road Tuesday afternoon.
