McCrory is right to look out for the people of his state

I was glad to see that Gov. Pat McCrory made the correct decision to protect the people of our state by not opening our borders to Syrian refugees, especially at this time. His job is to look after the people of our state, not the world.

There are ways the U.S. can help other governments and people in need by helping to establish a safe haven for them in their part of the world. We can’t afford to add them to our welfare system. The U.S. contributes more than any other country which shows compassion for other people and countries in trouble.

Cooper takes correct stand

Attorney General Roy Cooper should be praised, not condemned, for following Gov. Pat McCrory’s lead in saying “no” to potentially dangerous refugees being forcibly relocated to North Carolina by the federal government with limited or no credible information about them.

McCrory, a Republican, can now share the barrage of liberal venom from many in the media and social do-gooders in opposition to the Obama administration’s misguided policies, with Cooper, a Democrat.  Along with the unanimous support of Republicans and apparent unanimous support of Democrats on the powerful legislative oversight committee, North Carolina’s public officials are taking a courageous stand.

It is a shame that our enemies have caused this terrible situation to develop in Syria and it is sad that desperate Syrians have been forced to flee their country. Most refugees are harmless and are seeking a better life and it is equally sad that some potentially dangerous thugs are harming the overwhelming law-abiding refugees. However, in this case, it is imperative that our leaders in both parties in NC stand up for our citizens and to protect us against possible death.

We can hope that Obama corrects his naïve policies and remembers that he is supposed to be protecting us, but don’t hold your breath waiting for this to happen.
