The Rowan-Salisbury School System has hired Sandra Albert as the new director of the district’s Exceptional Children program.

Albert has been director of exceptional children for the Mooresville Graded School District since 2013, according to information provided by the Rowan system.

Before that, she was an Exceptional Children program coordinator and specialist from 2010 to 2013 and a behavior specialist from 2007 to 2010 with the Mooresville school district.

Her prior jobs included working with an autistic children’s program in Norfolk, Va., and as a foster care social worker in Long Island, N.Y.

Albert has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Queen’s College in Flushing, N.Y.; a master’s in special education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.; and additional education-related certifications from Wingate University and Appalachian State University.

She is currently working on a doctorate in educational leadership from Wingate University, according to the information provided by the school system.

Albert replaces Dr. Crystal Vail, who resigned in April after being placed on administrative leave in February during an investigation. School system officials did not provide details of the investigation or what prompted it.
