When the China Grove Town Board meets Tuesday it’s scheduled to consider selling a piece of property and a rezoning of property on U.S. 29.

The town board’s agenda lists a rezoning of property located at 135 East Centerview Street, currently owned by the town of China Grove, and another tract of land in the 600 block of East Ketchie Street owned by Samuel and Julie Sloop of Bland, Va. Just before the rezoning, the town board is scheduled to consider starting an upset bid process to sell its land being considered for rezoning.

The two tracts of land border each other on U.S. 29.

The rezonings and sale of property are scheduled to occur during the board’s Tuesday meeting at 7 p.m. in Town Hall, 333 North Main Street.

Premier Builders is listed in a legal ad as being the party requesting a rezoning from Town-Residential and Mixed Residential to Highway Business. Both the town’s property and the Sloops’ property are being considered for a rezoning to Highway Business.

The East Ketchie Street property is 1.1 acres and valued at more than $92,000. Currently owned by the town of China Grove, the East Centerview property is valued at $25,267.

Just before the rezoning, the town board is scheduled to approve a resolution starting the upset bid process. The process allows anyone a chance to make a bid for real property — land or a car for example — for an amount exceeding the reported sale price or last upset bid by a minimum of 5 percent or at least $750, according to state law.

State law requires a period of 10 days for a further upset bid after an initial bid.

A legal ad states documents are available at the Rowan County Planning Department — 402 North Main Street in Salisbury — for any further questions.
