THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A  SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR ROWAN COUNTY IN NORTH CAROLINA…

* UNTIL 530 PM EDT

* AT 350 PM EDT…NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL.  THIS STORM WAS LOCATED NEAR MOUNT HOLLY…OR 12 MILES NORTHWEST OF CENTER CITY CHARLOTTE…AND MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH.

* OTHER LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO ENOCHVILLE…CONCORD…KANNAPOLIS… LANDIS AND ROCKWELL

Instructions: A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE WARNED AREA. IF A TORNADO IS SPOTTED… ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A STURDY STRUCTURE…SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.

A tornado watch has been issued for Rowan and surrounding counties until 8 p.m. tonight.

A watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of tornadoes.
