Logan Shuping won the 10-11 age division of the Alarm South/Triad Summer Golf Tour organized by the National Junior Golf Tour.
Shuping won three of the nine tour events, finishing first at Bermuda Run West, Tanglewood and Statesville’s Fox Den. Shuping won the tour by 490 points over the second-place finisher.
Shuping also competed in four of the nine events on the Dick’s Sporting Goods Charlotte Summer Tour and placed sixth out of 34 golfers.
The son of Todd and Lisa Shuping, Logan is a sixth-grader at Erwin.
n Jayvee football
Brian Bauk scored three touchdowns as Salisbury romped over Central Davidson 44-0 on Thursday.
It was the 15th straight CCC victory for the Hornets.
Bauk had scoring runs of 20, 1 and 58 yards. His 20-yard keeper gave the Hornets a 6-0 lead.
Keion Adams raced 15 yards for a TD, speedster Hanson Saryee produced a 24-yard score, and Justin Ruffin found the end zone from 16 yards out. Saryee, Adams and Ruffin tacked on 2-point conversions. Phillip Kennedy kicked two PATS.
Samron Hillie (interception), Sam Humble, Tion McCain and Travis Byrd sparked Salisbury’s defense.
n A.L. Brown blanked Mount Pleasant 22-0 for its seventh straight victory on Thursday.
The Wonders rushed for 207 yards and threw for 57. Damien Washington threw scoring passes to Brandon Harding and Terrance Knox. Demetrius Jackson had a rushing TD.
n The West Rowan-Statesville jayvee game was postponed until Monday at Statesville.
n NPC volleyball
South Rowan defeated East Rowan 3-0 on South’s Senior Night to tie Statesville for fourth place in the league with a 5-7 record.
West Iredell completed a perfect season in the NPC with a sweep of Statesville on Thursday.
The Warriors will be the top seed for next week’s NPC tournament.
South is the host for the semifinals and championship game.
n Middle school football
China Grove lost to Knox 28-20 in eighth-grade football on Wednesday.
For the Red Devils, Tyler Fuller scored on runs of 5 and 17 yards. Devin Sells had a 3-yard scoring run and a 2-point conversion. Eric Goldston threw a conversion pass to David Comer. Comer forced a fumble that Elijah Beaver recovered.
n In a seventh-grade game on Tuesday, China Grove topped Knox 36-12. Brandon Sloop ran for TDs of 3 and 2 yards and ran for a 2-point conversion. Josh Barlow scored on TD runs of 12 and 30 yards while adding a conversion run. Anthony McCurry scored on a 46-yard run and added a PAT run.
Standouts defensively for the Red Devils included Sloop, McCurry, Barlow, J.T. Morgan, Alex Lyles, Herman Freeman and Cody Brown. Regan May had a fumble recovery.
No information was submitted on the Trojans.
n Baseball Academy
U.S. Baseball Academy is opening a Salisbury location and will be registering players for its winter/spring program.
Spring Training 2010 will be directed by East Rowan coach Brian Hightower, who will be assisted by high school and college coaches in the area.

n Catawba athletics
Catawba’s Maleah Cole and Christian Crifasi were individual winners in the three-team Wingate Invitational that was held on Thursday.
Wingate’s women nipped Catawba for the team title. The Bulldogs had a score of 31 to Catawba’s 34.
Cole ran 20:28 to win the women’s 5K event. Catawba’s Hannah Thompson was fifth. Mayra Arroyo (A.L. Brown) finished sixth.
Wingate won the men’s 5K with a score of 24. Catawba was second with 39. Crifasi won in a time of 16:48. Catawba’s Justin Smith placed fourth.
n Catawba’s men’s soccer team lost to Newberry 4-2 on Thursday.
Valentin Nava (Carson) scored the first goal for Catawba (4-8-1, 0-4-1) on an assist from Deon Cuffie-Joseph.
Andrew Landry scored his seventh goal of the season on a through ball delivered by Kirby Freeland.
Tyler Held made seven saves for the Indians.
n Reschedules
n The Statesville-East Rowan soccer match postponed on Wednesday is now set for at East.
n The NPC tennis tournament will be conducted today and Saturday at the West Rowan courts.
