A Kannapolis man is under arrest for allegedly stealing the car of an Iredell County family while they were on vacation.

According to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell, deputies in his department received a report on March 10 that a car had been stolen from a residence. Deputies went to interview the victims, then entered the car’s information in the National Crime Information Center or NCIC.

The case was assigned to Detective E. McNeely of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CIOD) for a follow-up investigation.

On Monday, April 14, McNeely discovered that the stolen vehicle had been located abandoned in the parking lot of a business in Mocksville. It had been towed and was being stored at a local wrecker service facility. McNeely went to the facility to search the car for any evidence left by the thief.

McNeely was able to use evidence to identify Reginald Scott Brown, 38, of Kannapolis, as the possible suspect and subsequently obtained a warrant for Brown’s arrest on a charge of felony larceny of a motor vehicle.

Brown was quickly located and arrested. He is currently being held at the Iredell County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
