LEXINGTON — Salisbury outscored Lexington 7-5 in a wild Central Carolina Conference struggle.

It was a big win for the Hornets, who lost 3-2 at home to the Yellow Jackets. The win moved Salisbury (12-3-1, 7-3) into second place in the league behind undefeated West Davidson.

It was another gut-check type of match for the Hornets,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “We trailed twice and battled back twice.”

Salisbury trailed early 1-0 and 2-1.

Salisbury peaked with a 6-3 lead, but Lexington (8-6-1, 6-4) fought back to 6-5 before the Hornets scored a clincher.

Maddie Crabb had a hat trick for the Hornets. Jamilet Figueroa scored twice. Addie Griffith and Gabbi Fatovic scored a goal each.

Fatovic had two assists. Figueroa, Crabb and Mariana Zapata were credited with one.

“At halftime we made some adjustments and called out some specific individual issues we needed to work on, and the girls responded — yet again,” Parrish said. “Sometimes they need to find success to see the results behind the criticism and I hope that we found some of that tonight. It was bonkers out there. It wasn’t pretty, but I will take the result.”

Salisbury is 14th in the 2A West RPI rankings and has a chance to get a first-round home playoff game.

Next up for the Hornets is a non-conference match at Trinity on Wednesday. Trinity is 7-9-1, but the Bulldogs aren’t far behind Salisbury in RPI.
