SALISBURY — Working to earn his Eagle Scout award, Gabriel Aguiar, a member of Scout Troop 575 of Mocksville, is hosting a special car show, which will be held Sunday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salisbury Civic Center 315 S Martin Luther King Jr Ave., Salisbury.
This car show, a fundraiser, has multiple goals including bringing the community together, showcasing classic and custom cars and supporting the Community Pets Mobile Vet Clinic, which provides low cost spay, neuter and vaccines.
Entry fees per vehicle is $25. To register email esproject2025@gmail. Donations will be accepted.
Aguiar shared that prior to the event, the work on his project has included planning and communication.
In an email he shared that his Eagle Scout project is bringing together his passion for cars and animal welfare and he is doing that by hosting the car show to raise funds for the clinic.
“But more importantly,” he said, “we are bringing awareness to their mission to bring affordable vet care to the community. I firmly agree with their belief that every pet should be able to receive the care they deserve at a reasonable price. This is a perfect example of how Scouting empowers individuals to make a meaningful difference while pursuing their interests.”
Not only is Aguiar hosting the event, but he is also planning to participate in it by showing his own car, a 1981 El Camino SS. He said that he has worked hard to restore the vehicle.
Aguiar said that the show will feature a diverse lineup of vehicles, plus it will provide an opportunity for car enthusiasts to get together and also to connect with local scouts.
Scouting plays an important role in shaping young people into responsible, resourceful, and engaged members of society, Aguiar said in the email, and it fosters values including leadership, teamwork, self-reliance and community service.
Personally, he said, “Scouts has helped me develop critical life skills, problem-solving abilities and resilience.”
He also noted that scouting strengthens communities and encourages its volunteerism, environmental stewardship, and civic responsibility.
Through being a part of scouting, he shared that he and many others have taken on service projects “that directly benefit their communities.”
