High school boys golf: East’s McIntyre medalist at McCanless

SALISBURY — East Rowan’s Brady McIntyre shot 34 for medalist honors in Tuesday’s South Piedmont Conference golf match at McCanless.

It was a tight match. Northwest Cabarrus got 35s from Talan Harrison and Logan Swanger and shot 153 (best four scores are the team score) to edge East Rowan (154) and Lake Norman Charter (155).

South Rowan shot 160 for fourth, while Carson was fifth at 166.

Griffin Robbins shot 37 for the Mustangs. Other counting scores for East were posted by Mason Mainville (41) and Brody Benfield (42).

Jadon Moore had a strong round with a 35 to lead South Rowan. Cooper Welch shot 41.

Robinson’s Ben Darnell shot 36.

Jonah Drye led Carson with a 38.

The biggest matches are ahead for the SPC teams.

The 18-hole South Piedmont Conference Championships will be held at Skybrook on March 29.

The 18-hole Rowan County Championships will have a noon start at Rolling Hills on March 30.

Salisbury has ruled the Central Carolina Conference all season and has six of the league’s top eight individual golfers. Salisbury’s John McCoy holds a five-shot lead over teammate Sam Goodman for the season. Salisbury’s Jackson Sparger is third, four shots back of Goodman. Bo Brincefield is fifth, Warren Fesperman is seventh, and Jacob Trainor is eighth.

The 18-hole CCC Championships are scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, at Sapona.
