Letter: From chaos to care

I believe that even though I live on a quiet street in a very pleasant small city, that we, all Americans, are experiencing an unprecedented onslaught of chaos! Chaos is defined as a state of utter confusion and disorder. Consider the following:
• Social Security is under attack.
• The stock market acts like a yo-yo.
• Cuts to FEMA affect our water supply locally.
• The president gloats over pain he causes to persons in need here or elsewhere.
• A billionaire is appointed destroyer in chief of government services.
• A judge who lost an election is fighting to overturn the results.
• Possible Medicaid cuts would jeopardize our health department and hospital.
These and other similar actions, all contribute to the current state of chaos.
The most recent study by our county health department reports that the greatest health challenge in our community is anxiety and depression. No wonder, when many of the “secure” anchors of our society have become unstable, confusing and no longer orderly.
Most of this chaos is actually the result of the current leadership of our government. From Trump on down, we are confronted with earthquake-type experiences shaking the foundations of our democracy.
We can survive this chaos by remembering to care for each other and for democracy.
We need to care enough to speak out against the destructive actions being taken.
We can rededicate ourselves to good government and political action to serve others.
One way to care is to join with the Rowan County Democratic Party. We are very inclusive.
Caring is contagious. Dare to care! Our future depends on it.
