High school sports: Cougars roll in softball, baseball, soccer

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s softball team doubled its win total for the season with a 6-1 win on Thursday against Concord and a 17-1 romp against Robinson on Wednesday. Both games were South Piedmont Conference victories for the Cougars (4-12, 3-10).
Caylee Snow struck out 24 batters in the two games.
In the home win against Concord, Snow struck out 10 while walking three.
Abigail Harrelson had a big double and drove in three runs. Carolina Snow went 2-for-2 and scored twice. Caylee Snow had a double and drove in two runs. McKenzie Powers had two hits and one RBI, while Piper Thonen had a double.
Caylee Snow struck out 14 with no walks in the road romp at Robinson.
Emma Woodlief had two hits and scored three runs. Caylee Snow had two RBIs. Caroline Snow had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in two. Peyton Hollar had two hits, scored three and drove in two. Leah Troutman had two hits and two RBIs.

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s baseball team routed Concord 16-3 on Thursday.
The Cougars led all the way in the South Piedmont Conference game and knocked out the Spiders with a 10-run fourth inning.
Carson (11-8, 9-5) had 13 hits, with Ryan Snyder and Carson Kirk getting three apiece. Jayden Goff, Jayven Parks and Corbin Hales had two hits each. Kirk and Parks had doubles.
Snyder crossed the plate three times, with Goff, Hales, Kirk, Parks and Gavin Hopkins scoring two runs each.
Goff drove in four runs. Kirk drove in three, as did winning pitcher Maverick Walters.
Walters (1-3) struck out eight and walked four in four innings, and Jacob Prevette pitched the fifth.
Reed Martin had two hits for the Spiders (6-15, 3-11).

CHINA GROVE – Carson won 5-0 against Concord in Thursday’s South Piedmont Conference match.
Liz Escobar had a hat trick for the Cougars (9-6-1, 7-4-1). Allie Martin and Caylee Miracco had a goal apiece.
Carson also beat Concord 5-0 in March. It’s been a struggle for the Spiders (1-14, 0-11).
The Cougars are 32nd in the 3A West RPI rankings.
South Rowan (8-4, 6-4) is 23rd in the 3A West RPI rankings after a 2-0 week.
Salisbury (10-3) is 15th in the 2A West RPI rankings after Wednesday’s 1-0 win at East Davidson.
