RCCC recognizes new student ambassadors

SALISBURY — Rowan-Cabarrus Community College announced the selection of eight outstanding students as Ambassadors for the 2024-2025 academic year. The announcement was made during a recent board of trustees meeting, with leaders of the college expressing enthusiasm for the installation of the new cohort.

The Ambassador program, established in 2010 and supported by the Rowan-Cabarrus Foundation, is designed to foster leadership skills while providing scholarships to its participants. Ambassadors engage with prospective students, represent the college at various events and assist new students in transitioning to college life.

“It is a privilege to introduce this new group of Ambassadors,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus. “These students were chosen for their outstanding academic achievements, leadership qualities and dedication to Rowan-Cabarrus. We look forward to seeing them thrive as they take on this important role within the college and the community.”

Kylie Baucom is pursuing an associate’s degree with a focus on business while working full-time. Attending Rowan-Cabarrus allows her to broaden her knowledge and create new opportunities for professional growth. Baucom is excited to push boundaries, expand her comfort zone and embrace challenges that can lead to her personal development.

Bradley Davis is pursuing an associate’s degree. He excels academically, volunteers on weekends, holds a leadership role as a peer mentor in the MEN Club and is passionate about basketball. Davis plans to transfer to UNC Charlotte after completing his degree at Rowan-Cabarrus, continuing his journey toward success.

Jennifer Jellen is pursuing an associate’s degree in general education degree and plans to follow it with an associate’s degree in nursing. She chose Rowan-Cabarrus for its renowned nursing program and is excited to grow as a leader while serving as a student ambassador. Jellen long-term goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and she views the program as the foundation for developing the professional and leadership skills needed for her career.

Gaoxung Lor is pursuing an associate in science degree with a passion for chemistry. As a Rowan County Early College student, she encourages others to take action within their school and community. Lor hopes to empower students to have a voice and foster positive change on campus through her role.

Destiny McPherson is pursuing an associate’s in general education degree and plans to follow it with an associate in nursing degree. She is passionate about healthcare and hopes to continue her education after Rowan-Cabarrus. McPherson hopes to use the student ambassador program to step out of her comfort zone.

Adriel Miller is pursuing a degree in cybersecurity and plans to graduate and transfer to East Carolina University. He hopes to help students on campus understand student life and help other students get involved. Miller enjoys that the Ambassador program has been a new opportunity for him to grow in leadership positions.

Claire Rheinecker is pursuing an associate’s degree with plans to transfer to a four-year institution to study medicinal development. As a student ambassador, she enjoys connecting with students and faculty, helping with events and promoting student life. Rheinecker hopes to encourage other students not to be afraid to be involved in the community.

Kaitlyn Vanderburg is pursuing an associate’s degree with a focus on motorsports marketing. Growing up attending races at Charlotte Motor Speedway, she chose this path to turn her passion into a career. Vanderburg knows the Ambassador program will allow her to network and connect with others who share her interests.

“We are honored to support these emerging leaders through scholarships and development opportunities,” Rowan-Cabarrus Foundation Director Connie Rheinecker said. “Their enthusiasm and dedication reflect the very best of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and we are excited to witness their future successes as they carry forward the values and skills they’ve developed here.”

Rowan-Cabarrus is dedicated to supporting these future leaders and is enthusiastic about the positive contributions they will make on campus and in their communities. The college is confident that these ambassadors will inspire their peers, advocate for students and leave a lasting impact through their leadership and commitment.

“Our ambassadors play an essential role in connecting the College with the community,” Rowan-Cabarrus Director of Student Life and Leadership Barb Meidl said. “This program is designed to empower students through leadership opportunities. It encourages them to grow both personally and professionally.”
