Salisbury PD makes arrests in January shooting

SALISBURY — Arrests have been made in connection to the January shooting of a male victim on West Innes Street, according to Salisbury Police.
Major Justin Crews said Novant Health called Salisbury Police about 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 to report they were treating someone for a gunshot wound. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.
Investigators were able to determine the victim had been shot while sitting in his car in the 1400 block of West Innes. They collected evidence at the scene and assigned the case to the Criminal Investigations Division or CID.
Police announced on Wednesday, April 16, that they had charged Shykiem Daekwon Verdell, 21, and Jamarion Proffitt, 18, with two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Verdell was arrested in Lexington and placed in the Davidson Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $750,000 bond. Proffitt was arrested by the Davie County Sheriff’s Department and was placed in the Davie County Detention Center without bond due to a pretrial release violation.
