VOX Books, which are physical books with integrated audio readers, offer benefits like improved reading accuracy and comprehension, increased reading engagement, and the ability for young readers to read independently, all without the need for external devices or internet access. Rowan Public Library South (China Grove) has recently added 50 VOX titles to the children’s collection of books, increasing the selection for emerging readers.
Children’s associate Chelsea Espy recommends VOX books to her patrons. “A fantastic tool for building literacy, Vox books’ read-aloud function is a great way for children to read alongside their caretakers as well as practice independent reading. The speaker and headphones functions of the VOX books provide literary entertainment and promote independent reading for a variety of ages and reading levels.”
VOX Books require no computers, tablets or CDs, making them easy to use and accessible. The combination of a physical book and audio narration makes reading more engaging and enjoyable. Children can read along with the audio recording, fostering independence in reading without needing an adult present. VOX Books help children learn to pronounce words, track text from left to right, and develop their vocabulary and thinking skills. The all-in-one design allows children to focus on reading and listening without distractions. Following along with the audio recording reinforces the connection between spoken and written language, which is crucial for early literacy development.
The “kid-tough” design ensures the books can withstand regular use, and the portable format allows for reading anywhere. To learn more about VOX books and other resources for early literacy, visit RPL South in China Grove or call the children’s desk at 704-216-7728.
