College track and field: Ellis wins shot put in meet

BOONE — Appalachian State freshman Brittany Ellis (North Rowan) won the shot put last Friday in the Mountaineer First Chance Meet.
Ellis’ best throw was 11.64 meters (38.2 feet).
Competing in the Raleigh Relays on Thursday, she threw 11.58 meters, an even 38 feet.
Ellis also has been competing in the hammer throw in the early outdoor events.
Ellis was a five-time 1A state champ in the throws at North Rowan.
