High school track and field: Wonders break school record in 4×100

KANNAPOLIS — Mooresville swept Wednesday’s track and field meet at A.L. Brown that included five Greater Metro Conference schools.
In the boys meet, Mooresville scored 101.5 points to edge A.L. Brown (97.5). Next were Cox Mill (72), Lake Norman (66) and West Cabarrus (13).
The highlight for the Wonders was a school record in the 4×100. Aspen Fisher, Michael Chapman, De’Monte Barr and Canien Miller clocked 42.53. The previous mark of 42.63 was set by Billy Simiton, Artrelle Louis, Dillon Robinson and Jamill Lott in 2009.
Fisher, Chapman and Barr also were individual winners. Fisher ran 11.00 in the 100, Chapman ran 22.66 in the 200. Barr swept the hurdling events with 15.51 in the 100 and 44.46 in the 300.
The Wonders won the 4×200 and got winning jumps from Ke’Shaun Kellam (6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump) and Deonta Harris in the long jump (20-11.5).

In the girls meet, Mooresville won with 114 points, topping the Wonders (84), Lake Norman (67), West Cabarrus (38) and Cox Mill (32).
Nevaeh Watterson led a 1-2-3 finish by the Wonders in the 200 with a 26.69 clocking.
Guevara Navarrete won the 3200 in 13:28.
The Wonders won the 4×100 (50.81) and 4×200 (4:20.76).
