High school track and field roundup: Julian, Kellam break school records

WINSTON-SALEM — South Rowan freshman Hope Julian finished fourth in the mile run at Mount Tabor’s Mile and Throwing Thunder on Friday.

Julian clocked 5:23.79 to break a school record set by Tracy Bradshaw (Calfee) in 1985.

South sophomore Keaton Sloop was sixth in the boys mile run with a PR of 4:47.

KANNAPOLIS — The A.L. Brown boys opened their outdoor season by winning a quad meet with Concord, South Iredell and Mooresville on Wednesday.

The meet featured a school record effort in the high jump by Ke’Shaun Kellam, who cleared 6 feet, 8 inches. The previous mark of 6-6 was held by several athletes, including recent phenom Josh Parks.

SPENCER — North Rowan had a number of winners in a meet with Lexington and Thomasville, although no team scores were posted.

North’s Derrek Edwards won the 200 in 24.25 seconds. Nicholas Morrow won the 400 in 55.61. Myles Witherspoon won the 110 hurdles in 17.5. Dyzarious Carpenter and Witherspoon tied for first in the high jump at 5-6. KaMahri Feamster won the shot put with a throw of 47-0.5).

North won the 4×200.

North’s girls got wins from Ty’Tiana Clemons in the 100 hurdles (19.50) and 300 hurdles (55.36). Krysstyle Stockton won the high jump (4-2). Allanah McArthur won the shot (34-4). Shyann Walker won the discus (47-0.25).

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s girls scored 149 points and romped in a meet with Mount Pleasant (71), Gray Stone (32) and Quality Education Academy (7).

Sadie Featherstone won the 100 hurdles (15.71), 300 hurdles (45.74) and the 200 (27.27).

Isis Smith won the shot put (27-10.5) and discus (86-4).

Savannah Wise was nipped in the 200 by Featherstone but won the 100 (13.50).

Morgan Efird won the 3200 (15:36). Jasmyne Brown won the pole vault (7-6). Lexi Kyle won the long jump (15-6.5).

Kyle and Cameron Ostle (4-6) tied for first in the high jump.

East won the 4×100 and 4×200.

East’s boys finished second to Mount Pleasant. The Tigers scored 141.5 points. East had 93.5. Gray Stone scored 30, while Quality Education had 4.

East’s Cooper Doty won the 3200 (11:35). Joshua Carlton won the high jump (5-10). Oliver Shank won the pole vault (10-6).
