Spring sports: Big win for Hornet tennis; Carson soccer rolls; East, West win in softball

BOYS TENNIS

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s boys tennis team won 5-4 against Hickory Ridge.

It was a big win for the Hornets against a 4A opponent. It was the first loss for the Bulls (4-1).

Salisbury got singles wins from AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis and Bryant Davis at the top and from No. 1 singles player Jashaun Epps.

Salisbury (7-1) got a doubles win at No. 2 from Jarrell-Ben Lawson to clinch the match.

GIRL SOCCER

CONCORD — Caylee Miracco and Allie Martin scored two goals each as Carson beat Concord 5-0 in South Piedmont Conference action.

Skarlett Henriquez also scored for the Cougars (4-1-1, 2-0-1).

Martin, Rubi Martinez and Michaela Whitfield had assists.

West Rowan lost 1-0 to SPC opponent Central Cabarrus.

SOFTBALL

MOUNT PLEASANT — East Rowan pounded Mount Pleasant 14-6 in a non-conference game.

Chloe Shank and Madi Tigert homered for the undefeated Mustangs (6-0).

Tigert and Kor Miller had four hits each. Miller drove in four runs, while Tigert knocked in three.

Shank had three hits and two RBIs. Lily Kluttz had three hits, scored three andd drove in two.

Eleni Miller had two hits.

Tigert pitched five innings. Camryn Perkins pitched the last two.

CONCORD — West Rowan stayed undefeated in the South Piedmont Conference with a 5-1 win at Central Cabarrus.

West (5-2, 5-0) scored four runs in the top of the seventh.

Arabelle Shulenburger had a strong game in the circle with four strikeouts and no walks.

Taylor Keller knocked in three runs. Shulenburger drove in two. EA Nance had a double.

CONCORD — Concord had a walk-off 4-3 win against Carson in South Piedmont Conference action after the Cougars had scored to tie the game in the top of the seventh.

Caylee Snow struck out 10 for the Cougars.

Emma Woodlief had three hits for Carson. Woodlief, Caroline Snow and Piper Thonen had doubles.

DENTON — It wasn’t a good day for Salisbury, as the Hornets made 10 errors and walked eight batters in three innings in a 20-5 loss to South Davidson in Central Carolina Conference action.

Addie Myers had two RBIs for the Hornets (3-3, 0-1). Dasmine Ambers had two hits. Ashley Yang scored two runs. Allie Peeler and Tijah Sims had a hit and drove in a run.

KANNAPOLIS — Hickory Ridge slugged two homers and beat A.L. Brown 7-3 in a Greater Metro Conference game.

The Wonders (3-2, 2-1) got two hits from Kaylee Dunning. Dunning and Myla McNeely had doubles.

MK Black did the pitching and struck out three with no walks.
