A two car head-on collision on Bringle Ferry Road Saturday evening has claimed two lives and left two families reeling.

According to reports from investigators, the driver of a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe crossed the center line of the road, striking a 2000 Honda Accord. Drivers of both vehicles, Felicia Compton and Carol Thompson, died at the scene.

Three children, ages 10, 9, and 10 months in one vehicle and an adult passenger in the second vehicle were treated at the scene by Liberty Fire Department and Rowan County EMS before being transported to Atrium Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. All were listed in stable condition as of Sunday morning and according to family, the 10 year old and the 10 month old have been released.

The accident happend in the 8300 block of the road just before 6 p.m. according to police, and the roadway was closed down for about three and a half hours.
