Letter: More unforgettable characters

Recently, I sent a letter to the Post editor entitled “Unforgettable Characters” about deceased Salisbury residents whose lives made and left certain impressions in our great town. I listed some of their names. Some Post readers expressed their enjoyment in reminiscing when reminded of these individuals and asked that I add some more names to this list. I put on my 81-year-old memory cap and located some additional names of persons who definitely qualify for this “honor.”
These include: Al Boulus, Jimmy Blackwelder, Bob Mason, Jim Shoaf, Hope Powell, Julian Robertson, A.R. Kelsey, Wink Wansley, Claude Lyerly, Jim Lyerly, Charles Dabbs, William Broadway, Paul Phillips, John Rustin, Sidney Blackmer, Raymond Kirk, Bill Ludwig, Elizabeth Duncan, Buddy Leonard, Charles Ketner, Wiley Lash, Archie Rufty, Wayne Whitman, Bob Somers, Margaret Woodson, Arthur Shuping, Helen Cheney, Charles Gerock, James Davis, June Rives, Fannie Kesler, James Sides, Dan Nicholas, Joe Taylor, Billy Burke, Mrs. B.V. Hedrick, Billie Johnson, Charles Burkett, Fred Shipton, O.L. Casey and many other teachers, doctors, clergy, etc. unfortunately too many to list.
When the time arrives for my obituary to be read, I hope it will be a little impressive and read that I was a caring, loving Christian who at certain times in life enjoyed “coloring outside the lines.” May God bless us all! Hooray for wonderful Salisbury!
