SALISBURY — Catawba softball is scoring runs and giving up runs at a dizzying pace.

The Indians (11-13, 1-3 South Atlantic Conference) are batting .344 as a team and scoring six runs per game.

Brianna Gallagher is having a monster season with 10 homers, 25 RBIs and a .440 batting average.

Kary Hales (Carson) has cooled off a little, but is still batting .438 with three homers and 21 RBIs.

Maddy Altiers has eight homers, 18 RBIs and a. 345 batting average.

•••

Abbey Nixon (Carson) starts in left field every game for Lenoir-Rhyne (16-10, 5-1 SAC), although the Bears have been using her as the flex player, so she hasn’t been swinging much lately. Nixon is 6-for-33 with four RBIs.

•••

Karsen Simpson (West Rowan) had a slump in early March that knocked her out of the Emory & Henry lineup, but she had three hits in the recent doubleheader sweep of Mars Hill. Simpson is batting .281 with a homer and nine RBIs for the Wasps (20-10, 3-3 SAC).
