SOFTBALL

CHINA GROVE — Camryn Perkins pitched a one-hitter as East Rowan beat Carson 14-0 in South Piedmont Conference action.

The Mustangs (5-0, 4-0) put up eight runs in the first inning and rolled from there. Everyone hit, including some reserves who got a chance with some starters traveling to Italy.

Madison Clark had the only hit for the Cougars (1-3, 0-3).

CONCORD — Northwest Cabarrus scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 victory against South Rowan in South Piedmont Conference action.

Haylee Ellis had a triple and two RBIs for the Trojans (3-2, 2-1).

Cressley Patterson had a big game for the Raiders (3-3, 1-3). She was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs.

Leisha Carter had two hits. Kynlee Dextraze drove in a run.

Remi Haggerty was in the circle and struck out six.

CONCORD — A.L. Brown mashed Cox Mill 13-3 in five innings to finish a sweep of the Chargers.

The Wonders (3-0, 2-0) got triples from Myla McNeely and Kennedy Yow in the Greater Metro Conference game.

Madyson Baker, Kaylee Dunning and Yow had doubles.

Yow had four hits, while Marynda Blackwelder and McNeely had three each.

Dunning did the pitching and struck out four.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

CHINA GROVE — Caylee Miracco scored three goals in Carson’s 5-0 South Piedmont Conference win against East Rowan.

Allie Martin and Liz Escobar also scored for the Cougars (3-1-1, 1-0-1).

CONCORD — Northwest Cabarrus topped South Rowan 4-2 in South Piedmont Conference soccer.

Brooke Oehler scored for South and assisted on a goal by Ella Morgan.

Margo Maples made 13 saves for the Raiders (3-1, 1-1).

Robinson held off West Rowan 4-3 in a South Piedmont Conference match in Mount Ulla.

 

BOYS TENNIS

GRANITE QUARRY — Carson edged East Rowan 5-4 in South Piedmont Conference tennis.

Three singles matches went to third-set tiebreakers. It was 3-all after singles.

Carson (5-1) got wins from Karson Sloop at No. 1, Will Welch at  No. 3, and Landon Jones at No. 6.

East wins were by Will Kesler at No. 2, Preston Stephens at No. 4, and Noah Grooms at No. 5.

Sloop-Austin Atwell and Welch-Gryffin Bowman were winning doubles teams for the Cougars. East (3-1) got a doubles win from Grooms-Sam Lisenby.
