Staff report

SALISBURY — Catawba’s men’s basketball season continues.

The Indians are in the eight-team Southeast Regional and will play USC Aiken in Columbus, Ga., on Saturday. Catawba is seeded seventh, while the Pacers, piloted by former West Rowan standout Mark Vanderslice, are seeded second.

USC Aiken (23-8) has won six in a row, including the Peach Belt Tournament championship game.

Catawba doesn’t have a standard regional resumé. The Indians (18-12) finished sixth in the long South Atlantic Conference regular-season race, bowed out in the conference tournament semifinals (by one point to eventual champ Lenoir-Rhyne) and were 5-8 on the road, but they had some good regional wins, and they’re still kicking.

Catawba lost to USC Aiken 81-79 early in the season, so the Indians won’t be huge underdogs, especially at a neutral site.

Lenoir-Rhyne is seeded third for the regional. Lincoln Memorial is fourth. Carson-Newman is eighth.

SAC regular-season champ Coker, tournament champ Anderson and Carson-Newman will be in the women’s regional.

Coker earned the No. 2 seed while Anderson is No. 3 and Carson-Newman is No. 6.
