Essie Academy, 507 W. Innes St., Salisbury has all boots on the ground when it comes to discipline, confidence, character and performance, and Coach Darrell Foxx has been advising Essie Academy’s Drill Team in those areas. In an email from the school it said that on Feb. 23, the school’s drill team traveled to New Bethel Baptist Church of Mocksville to perform at the church’s Black History’s Reflection. During this time, Essie Academy’s Drill Team completed rhythm steps, words of cadence, recognition of church officials and honor of military veterans. This reflection contributes to Black History due to the origin of African dance rhythms, words and respect to elders. The origin matriculated to current art forms of dance, poetry and spoken words. — Submitted
