Wednesday and Thursday games …

BASEBALL

MOORESVILLE — West Rowan jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the early innings and beat Mooresville 7-3 in Wednesday’s non-conference game.

Eli Graham and Carter Durant got the job done on the mound for the Falcons (3-1).

Mooresville (3-2) out-hit West, but the Falcons took advantage of six walks and four errors.

Carter Durant had three hits and drove in four runs for West. Cole Blevins scored three runs. Maddox Moore had a triple and drove in a run. Gaige Scruggs had an RBI.

Gavin Barber had two hits for the Blue Devils.

NEW LONDON – North Stanly scored six runs in the second inning and beat East Rowan 7-1 in Thursday’s non-conference game.

Ryan Friel took the loss. Keaton Walker was a bright spot with four strong relief innings. He struck out six.

Krys Hernandez’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Mustangs (3-2). Sam Blackwelder drove in the run.

 

SOFTBALL

LANDIS — South Rowan crushed East Davidson 15-0 in Thursday’s non-conference matchup.

The Raiders scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Eva Shue had a triple. Nora Wheeler had two doubles. Lexie Ritchie, Kynlee Dextraze and Avery Fisher had doubles.

Dextraze had three hits and three RBIs for South (3-2). Wheeler, Shue, Danica Krieg and Leisha Carter had two RBIs apiece.

Ritchie and Carter scored three runs each.

Remi Haggerty didn’t allow a hit and struck out seven.

SALISBURY — Wheatmore outscored Salisbury 17-10 in non-conference play on Thursday.

Salisbury (3-2) played much better than it did when it was pummeled at Wheatmore and led 8-6 after five innings.

Ashley Yang scored three runs and had three hits for the Hornets, including a double and a triple. Addie Myers had two doubles. Allie Peeler had a double. Tijah Sims had two hits.

 

BOYS TENNIS

SALISBURY — Salisbury rolled 9-0 against West Davidson in Wednesday’s Central Carolina Conference tennis match.

AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Ben Lawson, Farah Hassan and Jashaun Epps won singles and doubles matches for the Hornets (5-1, 2-0).

Bryant Davis-Lawson won the toughest match, 8-6, at N0. 2 doubles.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan rolled 8-1 against Robinson in South Piedmont Conference tennis on Thursday.

The Mustangs (3-0, 3-0) swept singles with Will Kesler, Thomas Stokes, Preston Stephens, Noah Grooms, Sam Lisenby and Spencer Ingram.

Robinson won at No. 1 doubles, but Stephens-Grooms and Lisenby-Ingram won their doubles matches.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan won 9-0 against Robinson on Wednesday.

Dylan Parrish, Max Brown, Callen Batts, Phineas Mixon and Jaxon Ramsey won singles matches.

West (2-2) took wins on the court at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and received walkovers at No. 6 singles  and No. 3 doubles.

Carson took an 8-1 win against Northwest Cabarrus on Thursday to boost the Cougars’ record to 4-1, with a big match upcoming against East Rowan.

TRACK AND FIELD

LANDIS — Carson, Central Cabarrus and Robinson competed at South Rowan on Thursday with a 6-4-3-2-1 scoring  system.

Central Cabarrus scored 64 points to pace the girls. South Rowan (58), Robinson (52) and Carson (36) followed.

South’s Hope Julian won the 1600 in 5:30, while Adyson Howard’s mark of 29 feet, 4.5 inches won the triple jump. South took the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

Carson’s Rylee Hedrick won the 400 in 1:05.95. Kara Crotts won the 800 in 2:37.13. Cadi Joyner cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump, while Renna Lynn won the pole vault (7-6).

Robinson won the boys competition with 84.5 points, with Central Cabarrus (68), Carson (64.5) and South Rowan (23) next.

South’s Kamden Rowell won the pole vault (8-6).

Carson’s Tanner Simpson swept the hurdles, with 18.15 in the 110 and 45.78 in the 300. Nolan White ran 24.90 to win the 200. Colin Masingo won the high jump (5-8).
