BOYS GOLF
SALISBURY — East Rowan won the South Piedmont Conference boys golf match played on Tuesday at McCanless.
East’s Brady McIntyre shot 33 and was the medalist. Griffin Robbins tied for fourth with a 38. Mason Mainville shot 40, while Brody Benfield was the fourth scorer with a 41. Jason Bonds shot 42.
Mainville holed out from the tee box on No. 6 for a par 3. He topped his tee shot into the pond, took the stroke penalty and then put his next shot in the hole. Roy ‘Tin Cup” McAvoy couldn’t have done it any better. It will be a legendary 40. Mainville tied for eighth.
The SPC matches figure to be tight between East Rowan and Lake Norman Charter. Northwest Cabarrus has two potential medalists for every match, so the Trojans can be a factor as well.
East’s 152 was six shots better than the Knights. Northwest shot 165.
South Rowan placed fourth at 171. South’s Cooper Welch and Dane Wheeler shot 41s. Jadon Moore shot 44. Miles Carden was the fourth scorer with a 47.
Carson’s Jacob Rockwell was on the leaderboard with a 39.
Northwest’s Logan Swanger and Talan Harrison shot 37s to finish four shots back of McIntyre. LNC’s Destin Vongmongkol also shot 37.
BASEBALL
MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan had a seven-run fifth and won 8-0 against Carson in South Piedmont Conference play on Tuesday.
Maddox Moore (2-0) went 3-for-4 at the plate and pitched five strong innings, striking out seven. Chase Fisher worked the last two innings.
Cole Blevins tripled for the Falcons (2-1, 2-1). Gaige Scruggs and Brody Pope had doubles. Six Falcons drove in a run.
Kendal Sifford took the loss for the Cougars. Carson (1-3, 1-2) was limited to three hits. Ryan Snyder, Carson Kirk and Maverick Walters had the hits for the Cougars.

GRANITE QUARRY — Central Cabarrus took advantage of four East Rowan errors and surprised the Mustangs 5-1 in SPC play on Tuesday.
The Vikings beat East for the first time since 2017.
Mason Phelps pitched six strong innings for East (3-1, 2-1) with eight strikeouts and no earned runs.
Braylen Ketchie, Krys Hernandez and Harrison Ailshie had doubles for the Mustangs. Ailshie had the RBI.
Garet Black had two doubles for the Vikings (1-2, 1-2). Tellis Bumgarner was strong on the mound.

CONCORD — South Rowan romped 15-2 in five innings at Concord (1-3, 0-2) in Tuesday’s SPC action.
Lucas Cox homered for the Raiders (2-1, 2-1), who scored in every inning. Cox, Landon Deal, Drew Pegram and Davis Kemp had two RBIs each.
Deal and Pegram had doubles.
Conner Coy scored three runs. Winning pitcher Matthew Overcash had two hits.

In a 5-0 Greater Metro Conference loss to Cox Mill on Tuesday. A.L. Brown’s CJ Gray, a potential high draft pick, threw three dazzling innings. He fired 49 pitches and struck out nine.

North Rowan won 15-12 against Albemarle in a high-scoring non-conference game on Tuesday. It was the first win for the Cavaliers (1-2).

In the Cannon Ballers Tournament on Saturday, Salisbury will take on Northwest Cabarrus at 10 a.m. A.L. Brown will play Central Cabarrus at 12:30 p.m., South Rowan takes on Concord at 3 p.m. Robinson plays West Cabarrus at 5:30 p.m.
BOYS TENNIS
SALISBURY — Salisbury swept Mooreville 9-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday, with the Hornets (4-1) winning handily in every match.
AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Ben Lawson, Farrah Hassan and Jashaun Epps won singles matches. Jarrell-Gray Davis, Bryant Davis-Lawson and Epps-Hassan were winning doubles combinations.

CHINA GROVE — Carson beat West Rowan 7-2 in Tuesday’s South Piedmont Conference match.
Karson Sloop, Will Welch, Griffen Bowman and Landon Jones won singles matches for the Cougars (3-1, 3-1).
West (1-2, 1-2) got wins from Max Brown at 2 and Jaxon Ramsey at 5.
Carson swept doubles, with Sloop-Austin Atwell, Bowman-Welch and Andrew Carter-Sawyer Steedley combining for the wins.

CONCORD — Northwest Cabarrus won 7-2 against South Rowan on Tuesday in SPC action.
The Raiders (1-4, 1-4) got wins from Sawyer Basinger at No. 1 singles and Leevi Fowler-Caleb Collins at No. 2 doubles.
• South lost 8-1 at Concord on Monday. Basinger was the only winner for the Raiders.

East Rowan (2-0) won 9-0 against Central Cabarrus at home on Monday.
SOFTBALL
CLEMMONS — West Rowan lost to West Forsyth 4-2 in Monday’s non-conference softball action.
Reese Poole had two hits for the Falcons (2-2), while Kayla Burns and Arabelle Sulenburger had one.
Shulenburger pitched well and struck out six.

MOUNT ULLA — Shulenberger struck out eight in a four-inning game as West Rowan rolled 15-0 against Carson in Tuesday’s South Piedmont Conference game.
West scored eight runs in the first inning.
Madison Clark and Leah Troutman had hits for the Cougars (1-2, 0-2).
Poole and Riley Haggas hit their second homers of the season for the Falcons (3-2, 3-0), while Raney Phelps hit her first.
Poole also had a double and drove in three. Phelps had a double and went 3-for-3. Haggas had two hits and drove in three. Ava Baxter had a double and two RBIs. Burns had two hits and scored twice.

STATESVILLE — Salisbury survived 13 HBPs and outscored Statesville 22-10 in non-conference action on Tuesday.
It was 10-7 after the first inning, but things settled down a little.
Winning pitcher Ashley Yang hit her third homer — this one cleared the fence. She also doubled, tripled, scored five runs and drove in four.
Allie Peeler scored four runs.
Dasmine Ambers and Addie Myers had two hits and two RBIs.

CONCORD — Hitting wasn’t an issue for South Rowan, but the Raiders lost 10-9 at Concord in Tuesday’s South Piedmont Conference action.
The Raiders (2-2, 1-2) had 14 hits, but Concord pulled ahead 10-5 and held off a rally by the Raiders in the seventh.
Danica Krieg drove in five runs with a homer and a double. Cressley Patterson had two doubles. Lexie Ritchie, Avery Fisher and Eva Shue had two hits. Nora Wheeler had two RBIs.
Ashley Hooks and Anamaria Shuman had three hits for the Spiders (1-2, 1-1).

KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown pounded Cox Mill 15-5 in six innings to start Greater Metro Conference play on Tuesday.
Madyson Baker and Myla McNeely had triples. Baker, McNeely and Madeline Cook had doubles.
Isabella Butler, MK Black, Baker and Cook had three hits. McNeely scored four runs.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan won 4-1 against SPC opponent Central Cabarrus on Tuesday.
The key at-bat of the game for the Mustangs (4-0, 3-0) came in the second inning. Gracie Barber had an 11-pitch at-bat with two outs to extend the inning, and the Mustangs plated three runs.
Madi Tigert had three hits. Barber and Kori Miller had two hits. Lily Kluttz scored two runs. Jordan Dry and Barber also scored.
GIRLS SOCCER
CONCORD – Ella Morgan scored twice as South Rowan started South Piedmont Conference play with a 6-1 win at Concord on Tuesday.
Cailynn Withers, Brooke Oehler, Chloe Tracy and Sophie Steedley also scored for the Raiders (3-0, 1-0). Peyton Bell and Oehler were credited with assists.
Margo Maples made two saves.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan battled to a 2-all tie with Carson in SPC action on Tuesday.
Allie Martin scored for the Cougars and also assisted on a goal by Caylee Miracco.
