SALISBURY — The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will hear the results of the pay study performed on the county’s public safety departments during the upcoming meeting on Monday.
The pay study has been underway for the past few months, with the county looking at public safety because of pay increases in surrounding counties and a subsequent high rate of staffing turnover.
The presentation will be used to inform the process of putting together the county’s upcoming budget, according to the agenda item. The item asks the commissioners to consider authorizing County Manager Aaron Church to submit the study’s recommendations as part of the upcoming year’s budget.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday and will be held at the Rowan County Administration Building located at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:
- The commissioners will discuss possibly appointing an interim commissioner to fill Commissioner Mike Caskey’s seat while Caskey is deployed to the Middle East with the North Carolina National Guard.
- The commissioners will hear about the upcoming grand opening of the Rowan Community Center and set up potential dates and times for both a ribbon-cutting and following grand opening events.
- The commissioners will hold a public hearing on the naming of a currently unnamed driveway located in the 1300 block of Rockwell Road. The proposed name is Misery Way.
- The commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed removal of part of the Rockwell ETJ into the county’s zoning jurisdiction. The property in question is currently split between both the Rockwell and Rowan County jurisdictions, so the removal would put it solely in the county.
- The commissioners will hear an update on the status of Vaya Health, the county’s designated Medicaid plan provider. The update will address the company’s mental health and family plans as well as the continuing Hurricane Helene efforts.
- The commissioners will hear an update on the county’s influenza outlook as the disease experiences a surge throughout the county. The update will also address recent deaths, according to the agenda item.
- The commissioners will hold discussions on the county’s noise ordinances.
