High school baseball: Cougars, Mustangs, Raiders get SPC wins

CHINA GROVE — New Carson head baseball coach JC Alexander got his first win as the Cougars beat Central Cabarrus 7-3 in South Piedmont Conference action.

The Cougars (1-2, 1-1) had lost close road games at Lake Norman Charter and North Stanly to begin the season.

Sophomore pitched Dylan Alexander (1-0) keyed the win with five strong innings on the mound. He allowed three hits and no earned runs.

Cam Williamson had two hits and scored two runs. Corbin Hales had two RBIs. Jayven Parks had a double and scored two runs.

GRANITE QUARRY — UNC commit Harrison Ailshie’s two-way effort led East Rowan to a 13-6 SPC win against Northwest Cabarrus at Staton Field.

Ailshie (1-0) hit his second homer of the young season for the Mustangs (3-0, 2-0) and got the mound win with 12 strikeouts in five innings.

Ailshie also doubled and had three RBIs. Sam Blackwelder had two doubles and drove in two. Keaton Walker went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Krys Hermandez went 3-for-4.

CONCORD — South Rowan got in the win column with a 4-3 SPC win at Robinson.

The Raiders came back from a 3-2 deficit with a run in the fifth and a tie-breaking run in the sixth.

Conner Coy went 3-for-3 for the Raiders (1-1, 1-1). Marshal Faw had a triple and two RBIs.

Macon Fuller and Matthew Overcash had RBIs.

Faw pitched four innings. Colton Helms pitched the last three and was the winner in relief.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan lost 3-2 to Lake Norman Charter in eight innings in a South Piedmont Conference game.

The Knights led 2-0 early, but the Falcons tied it with single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Cole Blevins and Brant Graham pitched four innings apiece for the Falcons with Graham taking a tough loss in the eighth.

Eli Graham scored and drove in a run for the Falcons (1-1, 1-1), Carter Durant had an RBI.

Freshman Garrett Burris won in relief.

Palmer Hayes knocked in two for the Knights, who are off to a great start with SPC wins against Carson and West.

CONCORD — Salisbury scored six runs in the first inning, but Concord had an 11-run second inning and won 13-8 in non-conference action.

It was the first win for Concord. The Hornets (0-3) got 11 strikeouts from their pitching staff, but couldn’t overcome seven errors.

Jackson Sparger threw some good innings for the Hornets. Evan Koontz had three hits.
