MARS HILL — Catawba right fielder Dylan Driver (Carson) is heating up, as he does every year.
Driver followed up Friday’s two homers with one in each game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Driver now has hit five of Catawba’s 16 homers.
Catawba (13-5, 7-2) needed to sweep the Lions (5-14, 1-5), but settled for taking two out of three.
The Indians bludgeoned Mars Hill 17-5 in Saturday’s opener, but the Lions came back to take a 3-2 victory in the series finale behind pitcher Brennan Williams, who struck out eight in a seven-inning game.
Just about all the Indians hit in the 17-5 game. Ty Hubbard (South Rowan) socked a three-run homer. Parker Styborski drove in three. Driver, James Dunlap, Sean Shelly and Matthew Connolly (West Rowan) had two RBIs apiece. Nathan Chrismon (South Rowan) had two hits and scored twice.
Payne Stolsworth (West Rowan) cruised to the mound win, allowing four runs in six innings and improving to 3-1.
Freshman Logan Dyer (East Rowan) pitched the seventh.

In the 3-2 loss, Driver’s solo homer and a run-scoring triple by Cole Hales (Carson) provided all the offense for the Indians.
Casey Gouge (West Rowan) pitched well enough to win, allowing two earned runs, but fell to 3-1. He pitched into the sixth and struck out six.
