HICKORY — All’s well that ends well, and Catawba’s women’s basketball team can burn the stat sheet from Wednesday’s game at Lenoir-Rhyne and be happy with another win in the South Atlantic Conference standings.
Catawba shot a shade under 41 percent, missed seven of 11 free throws, made 20 turnovers and struggled through an eight-point fourth quarter, but held on to beat the Bears 53-52. L-R missed a driving layup at the end, disappointing most of the 536 in attendance.
Catawba (16-11, 14-9) clinched fifth place in the SAC standings in a rebuilding season.
Lenoir-Rhyne (11-16, 9-14) is on the verge of elimination from a top-8 finish and a berth in the SAC Tournament.
Janiya Foskey scored 13 for the Indians. It’s not easy to win a college game with one in double figures, but the Indians did. Nine players scored.
Bailee Goodlett (North Rowan) had a team-high four assists.
Emily Harman led the Bears with 15 points. L-R shot 34.5 percent.
Catawba will celebrate four seniors on Saturday when the Indians take on UVA Wise.
