College men’s basketball: Blue Bears ousted from CIAA tourney

BALTIMORE — Livingstone’s men’s basketball team shot 0-for-10 on 3-pointers on Tuesday and made a hasty exit from the CIAA Tournament being staged at CFG Bank Arena.

It was a 31.7-percent shooting night overall for the Blue Bears, and they fell to Bowie State 68-64.

Livingstone (12-17) was the Southern Division’s No. 4 seed, while Bowie State (16-13) was the fifth seed from the Northern Division.

Despite the rough shooting, Livingstone got to the foul line often, held Bowie State to 37.5-percent shooting and stayed in it right down to the final seconds. Caleb Jones made the clinching shot for the Bulldogs with five seconds left.

Jamal Cannady Jr. shot 4-for-16 but made 12 free throws and scored 20 for the Blue Beras.

Elijah Davis scored 27 for Bowie State.

Bowie State advanced to a Wednesday game against Virginia State, one of the No. 1 seeds.
