Scouts from troops 324 and 4324, along with Pack 324, recently celebrated Scout Sunday.

Scout Sunday, as noted on the Scouts of America website, is an annual event that “recognizes the contributions of Scouts and adults to Scouting.”

Members of these troops observed the special day at Grace Lower Stone Reformed Church, which is located at 2410 Lower Stone Church Road outside Rockwell on Feb. 23 as they helped to lead in the 11 a.m. worship service.

“The leadership skills the Scouts have learned were displayed throughout the service as they led the congregation” in a variety of ways, said Pastor Kevin Sloop, music director of the church, in an email.

He said that the Scouts led during the hymns, the call to worship, the Apostles’ Creed, confession, offering, prayers, scriptures and sermon. They also served as greeters and ushers for the morning service.

The troops and pack celebrate Scout Sunday at their respect host churches each year, and because this is the first year these troops have been meeting at the Rockwell church, this was their first year to celebrate with this congregation. However, they have participated in Scout Sunday at their previous host church on multiple occasions, said Sloop.

Ryan Smith serves as the group’s director and has prepared the scouts to lead their host congregation’s worship on Scout Sunday for a number of years.

The troops and pack meet in the church’s fellowship hall on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.

All boys and girls between the ages of kindergarten and a high school senior are welcome to join the scouts “as they learn to serve and have a good time,” he said.
