College baseball: Good road win for Catawba

MOUNT OLIVE — Catawba’s baseball team got a good mid-week road win on Tuesday, winning 5-2 in non-conference action at Mount Olive’s Scarborough Field.
Both teams were ranked in Division II — Mount Olive 11th and Catawba 18th.
Catawba (8-3) won its fifth in a row. Mount Olive is 7-4.
Braden Major’s long relief outing keyed the victory. He entered in the third inning and lasted through the seventh to earn the win. Hayden Simmerson (Carson) pitched the eighth and ninth for a save.
Sean Shelly had three hits for the Indians. Dylan Driver (Carson), Cole Hales (Carson) and Sam Hunter had two hits each.
Nathan Chrismon (South Rowan) had two steals and scored twice. Hunter drove in two.
The win was the 998th at Catawba for head coach Jim Gantt.
