The Carolina Artists guild to offer ‘how to think like an artist’ demonstration

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, February 18, 2025

The Carolina Artists guild will be offering a fun and interactive demonstration at the monthly meeting on Feb. 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Faith Center, 100 North Jackson Street entrance) in Salisbury. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., and refreshments will be available. Guests are always welcome.
Local artist Doris Trexler will be offering a demonstration to teach members to “Think Like An Artist,” followed by an interactive activity. Participants will be learning about values, composition and the importance of creating thumbnail sketches in black and white. Reference artwork and photos will be observed so each person can create a sketch. Trexler will give guidance on using a watercolor brush, ink and compositional techniques. Supplies will be furnished. No charge.
With the threat of inclement weather, if the Rowan-Salisbury Schools have canceled classes for Thursday, the program will be presented at the March meeting instead.
Trexler is a local oil, acrylic and watercolor artist. She enjoys painting miniatures using watercolor and ink. She also creates original greeting cards from her art. Her artwork can be seen at The Fine Frame Gallery, 105 South Main Street in Salisbury.
The Carolina Artists guild supports its member artists as it offers classes, individual exhibits or other art-related events. More events are scheduled as the year progresses including the 36th Annual three-day Art Expo Show and Sale, including the Artist Showcase Gift Shop at the Salisbury Civic Center in September.
Members will be exhibiting their artwork at Moulton Makers Show and Sale from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 8 in High Point. The guild will be at the Hurley Park Spring Celebration on April 6 and at the annual The Spring Show and Sale at Spencer Women’s Club April 15-17.
The Carolina Artists guild offers interactive monthly mini workshops, guest artist workshops, community and art events and much more planned throughout the year.
The Carolina Artists will be welcoming back guest artist Craig Richards, a Winston-Salem modern impressionistic artist, to teach a one-day drawing workshop from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on April 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Faith Center. The class will include basic drawing techniques, form, values, depth and perception to improve your artwork. Numerous sketches will be completed during the class. Richards taught a very successful plein air workshop last fall for the artist group. Contact Cherrathee Hager for information and registration. Class size limited and all skill levels are welcome.
Local artist Dr. Mary-Louise Hooper will be offering a five-week watercolor class from 9:30-11:30 a.m. March 15-April 12. at the Joyce Darling Gallery, 111 Central Avenue in Landis. Class space is limited to 12 students. All skill levels welcome. For further information, email 111darlingarts@gmail.com or text Hooper at 717-659-0146.
Now is the perfect time to join The Carolina Artists, as the dues are discounted at $30 until April 30. Artists, photographers and art lovers are encouraged to attend monthly meetings, and guests are always welcome.
The group offers opportunities for individuals and businesses to support The Carolina Artists as an annual sponsor or supporter. Various levels are available.
