Letter: Unforgettable characters

I read with interest Clyde’s “My Turn” article in Sunday’s Salisbury Post. I was born and raised in Salisbury and lived here all of my life. During my 81 years, I have met and/or known many prominent Salisbury residents. Some of them include: Rose Post, O.O. Rufty, Jackie Torrence, Becky Hinkle, Leo Wallace, Emmett Thompson, Ralph Ketner, Sam Purcell, Henry Bernhardt, Norman Ingle, William (Bill) Mills, John Nettles, Charles (Bloody) Thompson, John Stirewalt, Garland Gaither, James Hartline, Fred Ayash, Johnny Suther, M.L. Barnes, Addie Rhem Morris and who could forget “Germie” Annie and her little white gloves.
Sadly, these souls are no longer with us but they have left special impressions in my mind and lasting footprints on my heart. Salisbury has been and still is a wonderful place to live! Even now as I read local obituaries in the Post, I am not surprised that many people who moved away earlier in life, returned to their “Salisbury home” for their final resting place.
I always thank God for blessing all of us with life and for such an awesome town to live it in.
