EMORY, Va. — Senior Day emotion is a serious thing, and Catawba’s men’s basketball team ran into some of that stuff on Saturday.
Catawba probably beats Emory & Henry nine out of 10, but this was that 10th one. The Wasps couldn’t miss in the King Center and they smacked the Indians 93-78. There were 148 witnesses to the madness that transpired.
Emory & Henry (6-19, 4-17) shot 58.3 percent from the field, which is outstanding, and 56.5 percent from the 3-point line, which is astounding. The Wasps made 13 3s.
Jackson Crawford, a guard for the Wasps, scored 32. He shot 9-for-9 from the field, including 6-for-6 from 3. He proved he was human by missing two of his 10 three throws.
Catawba had some guys play very well. Kris Robinson lit it up for six 3-pointers and 28 points. Solomon Tucker scored an efficient 19 with 9-for-10 on free throws. Ibra Athie added 11.
Catawba only made 11 turnovers, but 38-percent shooting wasn’t going to get it done against a team that rarely missed. And obviously the Indians didn’t get many stops.
Catawba 36 42 — 78
Emory & Henry 44 49 — 93
CATAWBA scoring — Robinson 28, Tucker 19, Athie 11, McDuffie 7, Tinsley 5, Banks 4, Hawkins 2, Chase Daniel 2.
