College women’s basketball: Spry scores 20 as Indians stop Coker’s winning streak

SALISBURY — Mary Spry’s perfect night led Catawba’s women’s basketball team to a 71-65 win against Coker on Wednesday.
The former Carson standout was 9-f0r-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line for a career-high 20 points. She got 13 in the fourth quarter as the Indians (14-9, 12-7) made a comeback at Goodman Arena.
It was only the second loss for the Cobras (21-3, 17-2), ranked ninth in Division II. Coker had a 14-game winning streak stopped in a Play4Kay game that benefits the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Coker led 36-28 at halftime and took a 49-46 lead to the fourth quarter.
Janiya Foskey had another big game for the Indians with 21 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth straight game with 20 points. Nala Baker made three 3-pointers and scored 13.
Catawba held Coker to 38.3-percent shooting.
Shawnteanna Tillman scored 19 for Coker.
Coker beat Catawba 58-50 at home in early January.
