“African Americans and Progressive Labor” will be the theme of this year’s Black History program at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.
The 32nd annual African-American History Breakfast will be held Feb. 28 from 9-10:30 a.m. with a special program celebrating the contributions of African Americans to the labor movement, and as the center’s newsletter shared, “and their pivotal role in shaping industry and advancing equity.”
F&M Bank and Hood Theological Seminary are serving as sponsors for the event.
Cost for the event, which is $10 per person, will include the program, breakfast catered by Wideman’s Family Catering and music provided by vocalist Rebecca Stinson and pianist Phyllis Partee. Only eight tickets remain for this special program, which usually features a speaker, will look different this year as they will be doing a skit focusing on the theme.
Registration is required and will close Feb. 21. Pre-payment is preferred; therefore, those wishing to attend should register and pay at the front desk of the center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
