Letter: Thank you, Congressman

At a time when nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, including 210,000 in North Carolina, prioritizing how this devastating disease is addressed remains a critical issue for our country.
As a citizen who has crossed paths (personally and professionally) with those living with Alzheimer’s/dementia, I have seen the impact this disease has on the person and their friends/family.
As an advocate, I have spoken to elected officials and their staff about the importance of addressing this disease. Of note, Congressman Dan Bishop’s staff member, Garrett, was faithful in listening to my concerns when I visited the office, as well as participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. It is so refreshing to know when your voice is heard by those who were voted in to represent you.
As a result, please join me and the Alzheimer’s Association in thanking Congressman Bishop and his staff’s commitment to seeing a world without Alzheimer’s. Congressman Bishop voted in favor of three key priorities related to Alzheimer’s during the 118th Congress: the NAPA Reauthorization Act, the Alzheimer’s Accountability and Investment Act, and the BOLD Reauthorization Act. These priorities will help support those living with dementia and their caregivers through research, public health efforts and expanding the national plan to address Alzheimer’s disease.
I am looking forward to the day when there is no longer a fear when diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, because the cure will be readily available to all! Until then, I will be thankful when elected officials and their staff see Alzheimer’s Disease as a purple issue, impacting both sides of the aisle.
