High school swimming: Mustangs place in 3A state meet

CARY — East Rowan junior Addy Sechriest and sophomore Rodney Hawkins III did well in the 3A State Championships held at the Triangle Aquatic Center.
Sechriest scored 17 points, 11 for eighth place in the 200 freestyle (2:03.28) and six for 11th place in the 500 free (5:37.93).
She had a season-best in the 200 prelim to qualify for the A final.
Hawkins scored nine points, six for 11th place (5:19.04) in the 500 free and three for 14th in the 200 free (1:57.19).
Lake Norman Charter didn’t win any events, but took the boys state championship.
Lake Norman Charter’s girls also are state champions. The Knights won two relays.
South Piedmont Conference teams were really strong in the girls meet, as Central Cabarrus took second place in the team scoring. Central Cabarrus and Concord had two golds apiece.
