College men’s basketball: Catawba sizzles in win over Anderson

SALISBURY — Anderson’s men’s basketball team was pretty great on Saturday, but the Catawba Indians were even better.

Catawba shot 58.6 percent from the field in front of 377 fans at Goodman Arena, while making only seven turnovers.

Anderson  played well enough to win most days in the South Atlantic Conference with 53-percent field-goal shooting, 10-for-22 on 3-pointers and 15-for-18 on free throws.

Anderson did make 15 turnovers, and that was a crucial advantage for Catawba in an 87-77 victory.

Ibra Athie scored 21 for the Indians (14-8, 11-7), who are 10-2 at home.

Justin Banks came off the bench to score 18 on 7-for-9 shooting. Kris Robinson scored 17.

AJ Wright paced the Trojans (12-10, 8-10) with 19 points.
