SALISBURY — The unpredictability of baseball was proven one more time on Saturday afternoon as Shippensburg belted four homers off Catawba’s all-star hurler Payne Stolsworth and dumped the Indians 14-8.

Stolsworth (West Rowan) had been totally dominant in his first start of the season in Florida.

But it really happened. There were 405 witnesses at Newman Park.

It actually was worse than the final scoreboard looked. Shippensburg (1-1) led 12-1 after seven innings, but Catawba (3-3) got some runs late.

Nathan Chrismon (South Rowan) hit a three-run homer for the Indians, his second blast of the season. Dylan Driver (Carson) hit his first homer. He also doubled and singled.

Cole Hales (Carson) had two hits and scored twice. James Dunlap had two hits and drove in a run.

The Indians will try to win the series on Sunday with a first pitch set for noon.
