College men’s basketball: Williams helps Claflin beat Blue Bears again

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Former Carson Cougar Jailen Williams had a strong game as Claflin beat Livingstone 75-62 on Wednesday in CIAA men’s basketball.

Williams’ 15 points came on 6-for-7 shooting, with 2-for-2 from the 3-point line. He added three rebounds, three assists and two steals while making one turnover in 23 minutes.

Claflin finished off a season sweep of the Blue Bears (6-12, 3-9).

Gregory Spurlock was the leading scorer for Claflin (14-9, 7-5) with 18 points.

Livingstone had the edge on the boards and in the turnover battle, but Claflin won the game with much better shooting, especially from the 3-point line. Claflin shot 12-for-22 on 3s, while Livingstone was 4-for-16.

James Nipper scored 12 for the Blue Bears on an off night for normal leading scorer Jamal Cannady Jr. He shot 3-for-13 and Livingstone shot 33.3 percent from the floor, while Claflin shot 52 percent.
