GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan won 56-36 at home against South Rowan.
“Too many missed layups, but overall, we were pretty good,” East coach Bri Evans said.

THOMASVILLE — Salisbury went 6-for-20 from the free-throw line, but rebounded well, played solid defense and was able to get another Central Carolina Conference win.
Mariana Zapata made four 3-pointers and scored a career-best 14 points to lead the Hornets to a 53-38 victory at East Davidson.
“Mariana has been shooting the ball very well,” Salisbury head coach Lakai Brice said.
The Hornets (11-7, 6-2) are in second place behind Lexington. The Yellow Jackets are having a special season.
Torese Evans didn’t have a great night at the foul line, but she was the dominant player on the floor. She directed the Hornets and had 13 points, five assists and five steals.
Zapata made two 3s late in the first quarter as the Hornets took a 16-14 lead. She made another one for a 22-17 lead early in the second quarter. The Hornets shut down the Golden Eagles in the second quarter and took a 32-19 halftime edge.
East Davidson chopped Salisbury’s lead under 10 points a few times in the second half, but the Hornets were never seriously threatened. Janiyah Fomond pulled down eight rebounds, while Keaira Spruill and Jaliyah McNeely grabbed five apiece. Gabbi Fatovic made a 3-pointer in the second quarter. Kylaih Pearson-Hasty drove for a nice bucket in the third.
“Still looking for more consistency and still need to make more layups and free throws,” Brice said. “I don’t know what to do about the free throws. We’ve tried everything in practice.”
