Tuesday games …

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan won 82-77 against Northwest Cabarrus in South Piedmont Conference action.

It was a shocking result because the low point of the season for the Falcons may have been the 67-33 shellacking they took at Northwest in early January. West was down 40 at halftime in that one.

But it was a different story in the rematch. Evan Kennedy led an inspired effort by the Falcons (6-13, 4-9) with 19 points. West scored 27 in the second quarter and 50 in the first half. and beat the league’s second-place team. Northwest is 13-7 and 10-3 in the SPC.

“We got out to a big lead by playing our best basketball of the season in the first half,” West head coach Dadrian Cuthbertson said. “We were good on both ends of the floor. We played under control and we were patient. Northwest is a very good team, a well-coached team. We knew they’d make a run at us in the second half, and they did. But we made free throws and we held on.”

Jalen Moten made two 3-pointers in the first quarter. Brant Graham, a junior who surpassed 500 points for his career, made two 3s in the second quarter.

Jaylen Neely made three buckets in the third quarter. West made 13 free throws in the fourth quarter.

West put five in double figures. Besides Kennedy’s 19, Graham had 14, Moten scored 13, Ja’mih Tucker had 12, and Josiah Young returned to the lineup and scored 10. Neely had a career-high nine.

WEST scoring — Kennedy 19, Graham 14, Moten 13, Tucker 12, Young 10, Neely 9, Donaldson 3, Ford 2.

THOMASVILLE — Salisbury hit the century mark for the third time this season in a 100-38 annihilation of East Davidson.

The Hornets drilled 14 3-pointers in the Central Carolina Conference blowout. The Hornets made seven from long distance in the second quarter alone.

“We had a good shooting night,” Salisbury head coach Albert Perkins understated.

Myles Smith scored 12 in the first quarter as the Hornets (18-3, 10-0) took a 28-11 lead. After a 32-point second quarter, Salisbury led 60-20 at the half. The second half went by quickly with a running clock.

Smith finished with 25 points and topped 20 for the 15th time in the Hornets’ 21 games.

Smith played his first three high school seasons at Victory Christian in Charlotte. He is closing in on a 500-point season for Salisbury and has 931 points for his career.

Braylon Taylor made four 3-pointers and scored 23 points. Tre Davis scored 15. Bryce Dalton made three 3-pointers in his second game since being cleared to play and scored 12.

“Bryce is getting back in the groove,” Perkins said. “His cat-like reflexes are still there, and it showed with some of his patented on-ball steals.”
